A Message From YSNN Board President Mary Lou Rozdilsky

We are very grateful to you, our community, who came through with donations that made our matching gift opportunity 100% successful.   We met our October $10,000 challenge!  We are so pleased about the energy this has brought to our organization and the members we serve. We are excited that, even though the match has ended, we are still receiving donations.  They will help us reach our goals of outreach and partnering with others who want to support older residents and ensure that they are part of a community that knows them, stays engaged with them, and cares about their quality of life.  Broad-based community donors, our caring volunteers, and community involvement will make this possible.

As we approach holidays this year, one of my favorite potlucks is coming up.  Our December 4th potluck will be at the Larson Gallery while the 64th Central Washington Art Exhibit is in the Gallery.   Won’t you join us?  It is a magical evening enjoying fellowship of others interested in, or supporters of, our Network, surrounded by art and learning the latest about the Larson Gallery.

But we need to plan for tables to fit into the Gallery, so if you plan to attend, PLEASE RSVP (509) 853-1917.

ABOUT US

A volunteer-based, non-profit organization founded to empower members of our community to continue living in our homes, where we want to be as we age.

To learn more, click here:          About Us

Our group came together because we want to stay in our own homes as we get older, and we want others in Yakima and Selah to have the option to stay in their homes and thrive.  We are creating a network to make that possible.

Members will be connected to:

  • Help with practical concerns like household challenges, technology, transportation, and emergency pet care by screened volunteers in response to member needs.
  • Educational, personal enrichment and social activities within our network and in the community in response to member interests.
  • One–call connection to trusted professional services in the community and screened professionals.

An AARP study showed that 90% of people 65 and over in the US want to age in their own homes.

Our group is one of 350 across the country – 16 in Washington state—based on a
National “Village” model developed 16 years ago.

Research on these virtual “villages” or “Networks” shows that people who become members

  • Stay more engaged and active
  • Feel less isolated
  • Develop an enhanced sense of purpose

Aging in place when you are able also has an economic benefit.

In Washington State, the median assisted living cost is $3000-$4250 a month and nursing homes cost $6000 to $8000 per month.

Because there are needs our Network cannot provide, we connect our members to existing agencies and resources in the community when members need more help than a practical Neighbors’ Network can provide.

Please note: Yakima and Selah Neighbors’ Network is not an emergency service, healthcare provider, or residential facility.
